A few weeks ago, I got the call that everyone dreads. Daycare called me at work to say that Lindsey was sick and should head home. Her teachers said she had a little fever and was complaining of a tummy ache. Here was our conversation on the way home.
Me: Lindsey, do you have a tummy ache?
Lindsey: Yes. When we get home let's put the penguin on my tummy. It will feel all better.
Me: Umm...what penguin sweetie?
Lindsey: The penguin at home. I put it on my tummy and feel all better.
Me: Umm...(quickly thinking of every book, movie and story that may possibly reference penguin to connect what on earth she is talking about).
Lindsey: The penguin will make it all better, right mommy?
Me: Sure, sweetie. Where is your penguin?
Lindsey: At home. In the freezer.
Me: Ohhhh...right. Yes, we can put the penguin on your tummy.
Turns out she had been referring to her penguin ice pack. Every time she had a bump or bruise we would put the penguin ice pack on it and tell her the penguin would make her feel better. Apparently she was listening and thought that the penguin would make anything better. Since we don't have to use it all that often, I had NO IDEA what she was talking about and assumed it was part of the fever.
