Trains

I will be honest; sometimes L asks questions that I just don't know the answer to.  This time I made up an answer and she caught me.  L still loves trains so when I see one I make sure to point it out.

Mom: Lindsey, look! A train is out Joey's window!
Lindsey: Wow, where is it going?
Mom: I bet it is going to daddy's work.
Lindsey: Why?
Mom: To say "hi daddy".
Lindsey: I think trains don't have mouths. It is not going to say anything to dad.

She got me.

Splash Deck

At daycare, Lindsey is lucky enough to get to play at the outdoor slash deck every week in the summer.  One morning I dropped her off and it was raining pretty hard.  I tried to explain that she may not get to go to the splash deck that day since it wasn't safe to be outside in the storm.  Jason picked her up that afternoon and this was their conversation in the car.

Jason: Okay, Lindsey time to go home.
Lindsey: Daddy, we didn't get to go to the splash deck today because it was raining.  It's not raining anymore.
Jason: You're right, but it's time to go home. We aren't going to the splash deck now.
Lindsey: But it is done raining.
Jason: I know, but we a going home now.
Lindsey: To....get my swim suit?

Zinny Cake

Lindsey loves to bake with me.  Since Farmers Markets are popping up all over, I decided to pick up some veggies to cook with.  The first thing I bought was some zucchini.  I found an easy recipe online and it was an immediate hit. Since zucchini is a bit of a mouthful for a 3 year old, Lindsey now refers to zucchini bread as zinny cake.

Here is the link to her new favorite recipe: http://www.my3littlekittens.com/moist-delicious-zucchini-bread-recipe-easy-too/

A What?

Yesterday we took L shopping at Target and Menards. Since that is a long time for my little wiggle-worm to sit still in the shopping cart I made her a promise.  If she sat nice and behaved, I had a rice crispy bar in my purse that she could have.  As we were nearing the end of the shopping trip I pulled out the rice crispy bar and let her have it.  This was our conversation once we met back up with Jason in the car.

Mom: Lindsey, tell daddy what kind of treat you had!
Lindsey: Daddy, I had a sticky.
Jason: A sticky? What was it called?
Lindsey: It was a sticky. A sticky chicken bread.
Mom: You mean a rice crispy bar?
Lindsey: Yes! That was what I had.

I think she just took food words that she did know and replaced them for the words she didn't know.

Negotiations

Lindsey has been quick to learn the art of negotiations at the ripe age of 3. Last summer on a camping trip she had one of my favorites.

Me: Lindsey, can you come help mommy? I will give you a marshmallow when we're done.
Lindsey: Okay! (Proceeds to help me put stuff away)
Me: Okay, let's go get a marshmallow.
Lindsey: Alright, two marshmallows.
Me: Noooo, I said just one marshmallow.
Lindsey: How about three?
Me: How about one?
Lindsey: Hmm, how about two?
Me: Fine.

She got me.  I'd like to add that I learned in parent classes at church that when you give the prize after the action, it is actually a reward. Had I given it to her before the action - that is a bribe.

Going to the Doctor

Last Saturday I had an early morning doctor appointment. Let's be honest, it was at 8:30am, but on a Saturday that is pretty early.  I had rolled out of bed and gotten Lindsey some books to read while I took a quick shower.  This particular morning I had the worst case of "bed-head" ever.

Me: Lindsey, mom is going to take a really quick shower and then go to the doctor.
Lindsey: (without any hesitation) Are you going to the doctor to fix your hair?
Me: What?!?
Lindsey: You know, the hair up on your cabeza.

Christmas Lights

We were lucky enough to have lots of houses with Christmas lights in our neighborhood. On our way to school each morning I would take a route that allowed us to pass as many of the lit up houses as possible.  Shortly after the holidays many of the neighbors took their lights down.  This was our chat one morning on the way to school.

Lindsey: Mom, where did all of the sparkles (Christmas lights) go?
Me: It got really cold, so a lot of the sparkles are inside now.
Lindsey: Did the bad guys take them?
Me: Bad guys? No, they are just inside where its warm.

A few minutes later we drove by a house with lights still on.

Lindsey: Look mom! Sparkles!  The bad guys didn't get those sparkles!

We realized that she picked up the 'bad guys' idea from too many episodes of Lady and the Tramp.
