Negotiations

Lindsey has been quick to learn the art of negotiations at the ripe age of 3. Last summer on a camping trip she had one of my favorites.

Me: Lindsey, can you come help mommy? I will give you a marshmallow when we're done.
Lindsey: Okay! (Proceeds to help me put stuff away)
Me: Okay, let's go get a marshmallow.
Lindsey: Alright, two marshmallows.
Me: Noooo, I said just one marshmallow.
Lindsey: How about three?
Me: How about one?
Lindsey: Hmm, how about two?
Me: Fine.

She got me.  I'd like to add that I learned in parent classes at church that when you give the prize after the action, it is actually a reward. Had I given it to her before the action - that is a bribe.

Going to the Doctor

Last Saturday I had an early morning doctor appointment. Let's be honest, it was at 8:30am, but on a Saturday that is pretty early.  I had rolled out of bed and gotten Lindsey some books to read while I took a quick shower.  This particular morning I had the worst case of "bed-head" ever.

Me: Lindsey, mom is going to take a really quick shower and then go to the doctor.
Lindsey: (without any hesitation) Are you going to the doctor to fix your hair?
Me: What?!?
Lindsey: You know, the hair up on your cabeza.

Christmas Lights

We were lucky enough to have lots of houses with Christmas lights in our neighborhood. On our way to school each morning I would take a route that allowed us to pass as many of the lit up houses as possible.  Shortly after the holidays many of the neighbors took their lights down.  This was our chat one morning on the way to school.

Lindsey: Mom, where did all of the sparkles (Christmas lights) go?
Me: It got really cold, so a lot of the sparkles are inside now.
Lindsey: Did the bad guys take them?
Me: Bad guys? No, they are just inside where its warm.

A few minutes later we drove by a house with lights still on.

Lindsey: Look mom! Sparkles!  The bad guys didn't get those sparkles!

We realized that she picked up the 'bad guys' idea from too many episodes of Lady and the Tramp.

Alligator

Two weeks ago Jason took Lindsey to the Mall of America to walk around.  Lindsey has a great memory and asked Jason right away if they could go see "the alligator".  Jason took her over to Rainforest Cafe and showed her the alligator on display....but that wasn't the right one.  After walking around the mall some more in search for another alligator Jason decided to take the elevator to the next floor.  Upon arriving at the elevator Lindsey says:

Lindsey: Daddy! You found the alligator! Let's get in the alligator!

Turns out after all that searching she really was looking for the elevator, not the alligator.

A Fire!

This winter has been so cold that we really haven't gone outside much.  Last Saturday, Jason took Lindsey to the mall to walk around.  It was around 0 degrees Fahrenheit this particular morning.  While walking through the parking garage, she had this little scare:

Keep in mind that on this morning it was cold enough that you could see your breath.

Lindsey: (after seeing her breath) Daddy! There is a fire! There is a fire in my mouth!
