Patience

This certainly isn't something that Lindsey made up on her own. She just randomly started singing it out of the blue which is what made it so funny.

To the tune of London Bridges:

Patience means you have to wait
Have to wait, have to wait.
Paitence means you have to wait
But not for very long.
Boop!

A Puppy

I would like to preface this entry by saying 'No, we are not pregnant'

From time to time we ask Lindsey if she wants to be a big sister some day. This night she said she did want to be one.

Jason: Lindsey, do you want a little brother?
Lindsey: No!
Jason: Do you want a little sister?
Lindsey: No!
Jason: What should we bring home then?
Lindsey: Let's get another puppy.

You don't say

I will be the first to admit that I tend to let Lindsey have her way more than I should.  I'm trying to say no more and enforce the rules a bit harder.  The other morning Lindsey ran up to me with a request.

Lindsey: Mommy, can I have some candy?
Me: Sweetie, go ask your daddy.

(I hear her walk over and talk to Jason)

Lindsey: Mommy, can I have some candy?
Me: I thought you were going to ask daddy.
Lindsey: No, I ask you. Dad says no, you say yes.

Well great, she has figured out that I am the pushover and she isn't even 3.

This is a tricky one

Lindsey has the fun job of giving our dog Joey treats.  She takes this very seriously and gets to choose which type of treat he has earned.  In the last few weeks Joey has had to start doing tricks to earn his treats.  We hope this will help Joey learn that he has to listen to Lindsey. It also makes Lindsey happy :)  I overheard this little gem the other morning.

Lindsey: Okay Joey, I have your treat!
(Joey runs over to her and is at full attention)
Lindsey: Joey, this is going to be a tricky one.
(I watch out of the corner of my eye as I'm not sure where this is going)
Lindsey: Joey, sit.  (he sits)  Joey, lay down. (he lays down). Okay Joey, now this will be tricky.
(She steps towards him and places the treat on his nose)
Lindsey: Okay Joey, eat it!

Prior to this event her commands for him only included sitting and laying down.  Apparently she had seen Jason do this last command with Joey.  Most likely Jason prefaced it with "Okay Joey, this will be tricky."

Be Quiet

Like father, like daughter. Neither Jason or Lindsey are morning people.  Both are extremely hard to wake up and quite unpleasant when you do wake them up.  This morning, Lindsey was in no mood to get up and get ready for school.  In an effort to gently wake her up, I rubbed her back while telling her we need to get up.  After about a minute, she had this to say.

Lindsey: Mom, be quiet. Stop talking to me.

Faster

Now that it is dark out earlier, Lindsey loves looking at her reflection on the patio door.  Her favorite thing to do lately is to run back and forth from the kitchen to the dining room so that she can watch herself run in the window.  Tonight she was at it again, but felt held back.

Lindsey: Mommy, mommy, mommy!
Sarah: Yes, Lindsey.
Lindsey: We need to go get new pants on me. I can't run fast in these!

Turns out that I had accidentally put her in 36 month pants this morning instead of her 24 month pants so they were a bit baggy; baggy enough that they were slowing her down.

Sleep over prep

Tonight, Lindsey is sleeping over at her grandparent's house.  We have been giving her pep talks for a few days to make sure that she listens well and behaves.

Jason: Are you going to listen to grandma tonight?
Lindsey: Yeeeesssss
Jason: Are you going to be a good girl today?
Lindsey: Yeeeesssss
Jason: Are you going to be a good girl everyday?
Lindsey: Nnnnooooo

So Literal

Sometimes we forget that saying one thing can be interpreted literally to a toddler.  We are working on keeping things simple.  Here was Jason's conversation with Lindsey in the car ride home from school.

Lindsey: Daddy, I have to go potty.
Jason: Okay sweetie, we are almost home. Can you hold it?
Lindsey: Daddy, I can't reach.
